bonfire

Well, these assholes are at it again. While they’ve been hanging out later and later for the past few weeks, yesterday was a real kicker: they came out at 11 PM. That would’ve been bad enough, but they decided to start a mini-bonfire in their backyard. So, in addition to burning planks of wood (illegal in NYC) one moron was squirting charcoal fluid on the already burning fire! Now I don’t give a shit if they burn their own house down, but the more likely scenario is that they’d do damage to someone else’s property and they themselves would come away unscathed.

I recently spoke to a FDNY Lieutenant about these idiots doing this (in the past I’ve seen them burn wooden bed frames). He told me to call 911 and that the firemen would have them put it out. I told him that I had done just that during an earlier incident, but they got away with this bs by simply saying they were “having a barbeque”. But, even though my wife was reluctant for me to call 911 (she was worried about retaliation on their part), I was more concerned about my house and family and made the call.

The firemen arrived within minutes and – unlike the earlier incident – actually went into their backyard to see for themselves what was happening. And, hallelujah, they extinguished the fire!!! Whew! Of course, these asses still hung around their yard until 2 AM drinking Corona and being loud and obnoxious, but at least the fire was out.

I’m so happy that I made that call last night as this morning they were out by 8:30 getting ready for the day’s cookout and I’m certain that another bonfire would have been called for to put their cauldron on. The losing side is that they music has been playing fairly loudly since 9 AM and will like go until past midnight. On the lighter side is that they put on a wooden horse a goat (or is that a sheep?) and started brazing it with a blowtorch. Thankfully, a blowtorch has a safety mechanism.

The picture is of the scene of last night's crime before they had gotten around to setting up this morning. I'd have posted a picture of the actual fire itself, but it's way too blurry.
